Feeling a Little Blue

9 Jan

Good afternoon readers!

I definitely have fallen off the wagon this week. My week was off to a fantastic start, but Monday afternoon I started feeling incredibly tired and these last couple of days have been very draining on me emotionally. Let’s start with Monday, shall we?

Monday I was up bright and early to get back to work. I started by making myself some Whipped Banana Oatmeal with just banana and PB. Keepin’ it simple.IMG_2061I also realized that my PB jar is getting very close to empty! OVERNIGHT OATS SOON! It’s sad how much I look forward to that breakfast, but it’s hard earned and well enjoyed 🙂 IMG_2064IMG_2065Then I was off to work! I caught up with Katy, ran through some tasks, then had to have a long discussion about the upcoming schedule because…

Monday morning I was offered a job at the running store in Chevy Chase! 🙂 As a way to try and earn some extra income for moving to California and to make health and fitness more of a priority in my life I have been applying to jobs that would help me do just that! It feels good to have one offer already in my toolbox, so now I just have to see how my second interview goes with lululemon tomorrow night and I will go from there.

Around 130ish I was ready for some lunch so I whipped out my salad and my new Klean Kanteen that Kevin’s parents got me for Christmas! They’re so fascinating to me. They’re dual insulated so they keep your beverages ice cold for hours and hours and hours. It was SO thoughtful of them because I got to use them this summer when I visited Kevin’s family on their camping trip. Thanks again! 🙂IMG_2067 IMG_2068A few hours later Katy and I decided to call it a day. I was supposed to meet my friend Mark at the gym for a fitness class, but I was feeling so unbelievably exhausted that I couldn’t even fathom driving myself to the gym let alone doing an entire kettlebell conditioning workout. I felt horrible bailing on him, but I knew this was a funk I had to deal with by resting.

For dinner I kept it simpleIMG_2070 IMG_2071I wanted to give my body a lot of protein for my lack of energy so I whipped up some mac n cheese  then tossed in some ground lean turkey sauteed in pepper, parsley and salt with some edamame. It was a great little twist on some comfort food.

After I finished dinner, Liam led by example.IMG_2076I decided he was right and it was time for bed.

Tuesday

Up early again and back to work, had another whipped banana oatmeal breakfast with cranberries, but alas I gobbled it down too quickly for a picture. I was feeling very unmotivated and had no desire to do any of the things on my schedule for the day – which was no good because Tuesdays are my longest days. At work I spoke with my friend Ryan about it over some lunch which was paella leftovers from Sunday!IMG_2078I also enjoyed my other Klean Kanteen from Kevin’s parents for the day with some iced water and later some hot tea!IMG_2077

After work I stopped at home then was off to babysitting where I did some more work reading on this guy (old photo) and then snacking on some of this:IMG_2081IMG_1763

After babysitting I went off to group therapy at my internship and caught up with my friends in there. It was really good to see them but I was just feeling so tired. They did give me some happy energy which was very useful for my 45 minute drive home.

However, afterwards disaster struck. After feeling so sad all day for one reason and another Liam had, for the third time this week, peed on top of a pile of Kevin’s clothing. I then went over and did the laundry with Kevin, cleaned up the room, the laundry basket, everything. For some reason, it just broke me. I called my mom very upset and talked it out with her about how I felt so guilty burdening other people with a pet that should be my responsibility. We have a bit of a plan moving forward, but it really just further plunged me into my funk.

I had a long talk with Kevin about everything that I’m feeling. As usual, he was extremely supportive and comforting. In an attempt to cheer me up, he had me pick out his outfit and have his roommate finally take our picture in front of our Christmas tree before we took it down. Thanks Kevin 🙂IMG_2085Today

Unfortunately, this morning I am not feeling much better. I was hungry last night, but didn’t really eat dinner because I didn’t feel like it and this morning I took forever to get out of bed and get to work. I have no motivation to do my jobs or anything that I know I enjoy: like exercise or watching Scrubs. I strongly feel that all I want to is absolutely nothing. Just lie in bed and do nothing. Not read, not watch shows, just lay there. While that is not only completely unproductive it is also not going to help me feel any better!

Eventually I made it to work and enjoyed my “breakfast” around noon.IMG_2087loved having the blueberries in there this morning. Well, it’s back to work for me before I am off to babysitting!

I am going to push myself to go on a run while Max is at his activities today instead of sitting in the car. I have to pull myself up if I want to get out of this funk.

What do you guys do to pull yourselves out of a funk when you’re in one?

Until next time,

Natasha

A New Year, A New Fruit, A Polar Plunge and An Anniversary!

1 Jan

Happy new year readers! Welcome to 2013! (I’m no fan of this odd number business, but looks like we’re stuck with it).

I hope all of you had a wonderful, and safe, evening last night and enjoyed ringing in the new year. Being up here in northern Massachusetts is pretty bone chilling, but Adrienne and I have been having a great time so far. Before I began my trip here yesterday, I packed up and took a couple photos with my parents.ImageImageImageImageAfter these quick moments, we were off to Hartford Train Station to pick up my ticket,Image then we had some time to kill so we went into the Whole Foods.ImageOnce I got traveling, I took a nap, switched buses to take me to Newburyport from Boston and snacked on some sweet potato wedges.ImageWhen Adrienne picked me up I scarfed down an apple (it was around 330) and when I walked into her house I had a PB&J with crunchy peanut butter and fig jam. YUM! We did some catching up, sipping on hot chocolate, then got ready to go to a neighborhood friend’s house for a New Years Eve partayyyy!ImageImageImageI only took a couple photos of my food at the party, but I snacked on some wheat crackers with cheese, some mini meatballs in a delicious yet simple sauce (1 jar of jelly, 1 jar of chili sauce and onions) then had salad after this plate of brisket and rice with vegetables.ImageI also enjoyed some tastes of chocolate pecan piered velvet cheesecake, and pound cake with strawberries, cool whip and melted fudge fondue. All were delicious! We then played a less appropriate game of Apples to Apples called Cards Against Humanity. What’s cool is you print it off the internet onto hard paper, cut up the cards, and play! It’s free too which is another great perk. We played with Adrienne’s parents and other adult neighbors which made it hilariously awkward at times.

Adrienne and I left the party early to come back to her house and watch the ball drop! After that, we were straight off to bed because we could barely stay awake.

The ball dropping was also the signal that today, January 1st, marks the year and a half anniversary of Kevin and my’s relationship! Unfortunately, we are spending it apart, but we are looking forward to celebrating it when we are back together in DC. Happy anniversary Kevin! 🙂IMG_0838Today, we woke up and got bagels from a local bagelry. I went with wheat and topped it with some Cinnamon Swirl PB, a banana and I tried kiwi for the first time! I really liked it 🙂ImageImageImageThen we jumped into the Atlantic ocean in nothing but our bathing suits. Absolutely freezing but really exhilarating. It’s a tradition for Adrienne and her neighborhood and although we missed the dive with everyone, Adrienne and I still got to do one together. The only rules are you have to go in with only a bathing suit and you must put your head underwater. Here’s the en route, before and after the plunge photos for your enjoyment:ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageIMG_1933I was so happy that I got to do this tradition with such a close friend. It was an incredible rush and a cool way to start my new year. Braving cold weather, 34 degrees, freezing cold water temperatures, and diving in head first no matter what. Seems like a great mentality to take into this year 🙂

After we got back and dried off, I buttoned up and went out for a 4 mile run.ImageNow it’s time for a lasagna dinner! 🙂

Happy New Years to everyone, enjoy the rest of the 1st day of the year!

Snowed In

30 Dec

Good morning readers!

Today marks my last full day at home. I’ve already got the suitcase packed so I’m spending the day seeing a couple friends, some time with my parents and some time organizing clothes into piles I can donate or keep.

Yesterday morning I woke up to a lot of text messages so I wasn’t really able to sleep in. It ended up being a good thing since we had an impending snowstorm coming our way, I wanted to get out and try and hunt for a great sweater bargain before it got too messy. First, I made breakfast.IMG_1825 IMG_1826I made a 2 ingredient pancake topped with Cinnamon Raisin Swirl PB and washed it down with a glass of milk with blueberries on the side 🙂

Although I wasn’t successful in finding any sweaters that I loved, I ran into a friend from high school, got a pair of 5 dollar gym shorts and scored the BIGGEST bargain I think I have experienced to date.IMG_1842I bought this sweater dress for $5.16 from Ann Taylor Loft. It was the only one in the entire store and I eyed this girl trying it on so I asked her where she found it. She ended up not wanting it (WHY?!?! I will never know) so she told me she left it in the dressing room. I’m so excited to wear it for NYE! 🙂

When I got out of the store, I realized how quickly our town was turning into a winter wonderland and how fast the snow was coming down.IMG_1827 IMG_1828

Once I got home I was starving. My breakfast did a good job of holding me over awhile though. Nonetheless, the first thing I did when I got home was reheat my chili and add some guacamole to it for a little kick.IMG_1835 Then I was home for the day due to all the snow and had to cancel some of the plans I had made and my family friend ended up getting the flu so I won’t be able to see them this break 😦 Although I was bummed, it was great to have some time to myself and my parents. I ended up napping for awhile too. Then I decided I should show you guys some of my Christmas presents!IMG_1844 IMG_1845

I also got this jacket from lululemon (it’s in the wash currently) and these running tights, but we had to exchange the size.

I am so fortunate to have gotten so much quality running apparel from my family. I also got a bunch of small things, like a great new nail polish color I’ve been rocking in my pictures, but figured you guys would be more interested in the big stuff.

After my nap, I lounged around for quite awhile watching Scrubs, Glee and eventually making a big salad for dinner. So big I actually had to move it from a bowl into a mixing bowl haha. IMG_1849 IMG_1850 IMG_1851In the bowl was spinach, zucchini, tomato, avocado, shrimp, cranberries, orange bell pepper, mushrooms, and beets in a balsamic vinaigrette. As if I didn’t have enough veggies in there, I also enjoyed a side of steamed asparagus. The dinner was absolutely what I was craving and filled me up. I enjoyed a couple bites of this local vanilla ice cream afterwards.IMG_1852I then went outside to try and capture how beautiful the snow looked, but I’ll have to get some better shots of it today instead.IMG_1853 IMG_1855 IMG_1856 IMG_1858I hope you’re all having a wonderful Sunday!

Until next time,

Natasha

Making It and Catching Up

15 Dec

Hey everyone! Good morning, bright and early. I have a lot to do today, including taking a big nap later and doing a lot of rest, so I wanted to get right to it this morning!

First things first, let’s recap yesterday!

So yesterday was Friday, YES, and I had the day off from the lab. I, however, didn’t sleep in too late because I was not going to miss the 9AM TRX (and here) class again. No way. And I am proud to say guys…I MADE IT! Yes I did, yes I did 😉

So, I woke my butt up and headed out the door after snacking on 3 delicious Prunes from Trader Joe’s! Yes, these typically are for old people (they help you poop due to high fiber content) but to me they have always been SO delicious. Even as a kid. Hey, don’t knock it til you try it!

IMG_1367

Yesterday’s class was tough. It might’ve been because I was battling this extremely weird onset of intense nausea the whole time, but Chad always gives us a good challenge. What I like most about this class is we rely solely on our body weight, with the help of the TRX ropes, for every movement we do. It’s really tough, but allows me to feel connected to my body at the same time, which I really love. Feeling connected to the skin I’m in is one of the reasons I started my blog. Some people feel that connection through yoga, I more often feel it through a good sweat session with only myself on the invite list for equipment.

Post workout, my roommate Mariam met up with me at my gym when my workout ended so we could run to get her some moving boxes from Staples. She’s shipping back to Egypt 😦

IMG_1712

Post workout, I was really not feeling well. My roommates and I have been trying to diagnose my random string of symptoms I have been dealing with for the last week. Still not really sure what’s going on, but I’m just taking it day by day. I began with what I knew I needed: fuel.

IMG_1387

Mmmmmm smoothie. It’s really been hitting the spot lately. In the cup:

-1/3 bag of Trader Joe’s Very Berry Frozen Fruit (blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries)

-1/3 cup of Fage 0% Plain Greek Yogurt

-a good splash of Trader Joe’s OJ (with added Calcium)

No banana in that mix today. Just straight up burries.

And a sweet breakfast scramble. Again, I only used 1 egg and 1 egg white so it wouldn’t be overbearing. And a big spoonful, plus a second one, of Cinnamon Swirl PB. Seriously, if you haven’t tried it yet – buy it.

IMG_1386

Also, as per usual. Somedays I wish I could walk into my kitchen, tell my chef “the usual” and have it appear in front of me. However, my roommates saying “Are you making that pumpkin egg thing again?” seems to suffice. Two even branched out to try it! Ami didn’t care for it, but Mariam was a fan.

After breakfast, I settled onto my couch. Time to order that ticket home! Oh, what’s that? I had earned a free bus ride? Thanks Vamoose for letting me go home for Christmas Break free of charge! 🙂 (Every 5th bus ride you take is free).

IMG_1391 IMG_1389

Seeing $0.00 as my total definitely put a smile on this girl’s face. Then I got a text from my friend Zach! He’s back in town after moving to Costa Rica 4 months to work/volunteer over there. I had completely spaced that we were meeting up today so I got my lazy butt off the couch, into the shower, dressed and then out the door where he picked me up! I chose Cava Mezze for lunch. Not only do they make DELICIOUS spreads you can purchase at any Whole Foods Market around here, but their house-made falafel gets me every time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool too. It’s all exposed wood and feels very natural instead of those places with so much fake lighting and plastic constructed booths/tables that you feel like you live in a Barbie house.

Anywho, how it works is you choose a base (salad, rice or pita) then choose 3 dips, 1 meat, and then as many toppings as you want! Zach ordered a pita as his base and got their house-made meatballs. While I chose the spinach salad as my base, and a mini pita 🙂 with roasted red pepper hummus dip, crazy feta, and tzatsiki. I chose the house-made falafel and then put cucumber and onion salad, cucumber and tomato, lettuce, quinoa, cabbage salad, feta cheese and olives  into my ginormous bowl of yum.

IMG_1396

Welcome back Zach!

IMG_1394IMG_1395

Yum, yum YUM. Always hits the spot and leaves me super satisfied. It was actually so satisfying, that I didn’t even get hungry for dinner!

After some lounging around with Liam, Kevin called me over for some serious Donkey Kong work.

IMG_1392IMG_1411

Around 830 I realized my mom was taking the car to CT tomorrow morning! Yikes! It was time for Liam’s bro-cation to begin a litttttle bit early. While I’m home for the holidays, since Kevin will be here for wrestling, Liam will be crashing at his place. I packed up all his things and brought him over while also running to Whole Foods for some whole wheat rolls so we could make burgers.

But, by the time I did all the running around and biked back over it was about 10pm. Kevin and I were both not hungry but we decided to try and make a burger to share. Aaaaaand the meat smelled SO BAD. Literally. The worst stench I have ever smelled in my whole life. I felt terrible that I had been so careless as to waste a whole purchase of ground turkey, but what’s done is done. From there, we changed our game plan. I whipped up a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich while Kevin had a really good idea to make Breaded Salmon Burgers.(When I made the GC, I didn’t realize he was planning on adding the burger portion to the Breaded Salmon, oh well the rolls were whole wheat 🙂 )

Want to make them? Here’s what to do:

1. Pour some olive oil into the skillet over medium heat

2. Grab your slabs of salmon and throw em into the pan of oil

3. Once they have cooked about 4-5 minutes (2-3 on each side) take them off. LEAVE THE PAN ON

4. Have one bowl of flour, one bowl of egg mixed with milk, and one bowl of breadcrumbs ready.

5. Dip the salmon into the flour, covering it, then the egg, then in the breadcrumbs.

6. Carefully place the salmon back into the pan.

7. Cook over low medium eat for the next 10 minutes or so.

Voila! We also tossed in some portabella mushrooms into the mix. We both love mushrooms.

IMG_1404 IMG_1405 IMG_1406

Once they were done cooking, off the pan, and onto our plates Kevin poured a little Cayenne Pepper in his hands and slowly rubbed his palms together back and forth over each salmon filet. Then layered some mixed greens, tomato and a little bit of cream cheese on the buns with the Breaded Salmon on the bottom.IMG_1408IMG_1410

They were actually really good. For some last minute, seriously it was 1030pm, eating and planning we had an excellent meal! Both of us weren’t hungry and full a couple bites in, but we ate the whole burger and mushroom dish anyway. Kevin had an early practice the next day and I knew I hadn’t eaten since lunch with Zach so ate we did.

I then spent some time admiring our Christmas Tree. It makes me so incredibly happy. The ambiance and the simple comfort it provides makes me feel more connected to the holiday and excited to go home than normal. It was also such a small joy to be able to share this experience with Kevin. Here’s some better, as promised, pictures of our tree! IMG_1398 IMG_1399IMG_1402

This little Lego man here is a Lego Star Wars Lego Man from a kit we built together. He’s very symbolic for us. The summer Kevin and I met, we would stay up really late talking for hours while playing the card game, Set, or Lego Star Wars II on my Playstation 2. Once we began dating, we decided that would be the first thing we beat together. Although we switched platforms, and games, and eventually beat The Full Saga on the Wii, it took us over a year to complete it. During that year, so many things happened, but like any challenge we faced in the game we figured out a strategy and kept moving forward. Since it has a special meaning to us, we knew we had to have part of it on our tree.

I also realized how snazzy our feet look together when we’re out in our sneaks.IMG_1403

We have some serious style. 😉

Alright readers, it’s now after 9 and I have to get started with my day! Hope you all had a good Friday and are enjoying the weekend!

Until next time,

Natasha

Canon PowerShot S100 & One Killer X Circuit

1 Dec

Good morning!

It’s weird to be awake on a Saturday at 830 AM without an alarm, but I was up 4 days this week at 8AM or earlier so I think my body’s just used to that. It’ll be good though because I’ll get a lot more use out of my day.

First, let’s rewind to yesterday. For this post, I decided I wanted to try out using my Canon PowerShot S100 instead of relying on my iPhone. Kevin bought it for me as my combined birthday and graduation gift last year. I have the Canon Rebel XTi and I had a really basic point and shoot Canon as well, can you see a trend here?, but didn’t buy a great one since I left the last one I had in a cab :(. The goal was for me to always be able to take great pictures without having to lug around my Digital SLR. I did some research before picking out which Canon and decided on the S100. It’s amazing. Not only does the picture quality blow me away, it’s the closest I’ve ever seen a point and shot come to my SLR, but it has a ton of SLR qualities like aperture control. It’s the highest quality point and shoot on the market and I highly recommend it. Thanks Kevin! 🙂

I woke up at 7 to head to the research lab to run a participant at 8. However, they no showed. It’s always frustrating when we make a special case for someone (i.e. allow them to schedule a time slot a whole hour early than the normal slot) and they don’t show up. While I waited, I had some Cinnamon Apple Spice Tea and a Gala Apple.

ImageAround 910 I headed out and decided to try and make it to the 930 TRX class at my gym. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, TRX is a rope-like object that hangs and has two grips on it. Depending on how you adjust the ropes length you can use the grips as foot holds or for your hands. It’s great for doing more challenging planks, push-ups, glute exercises or lunges when your feet are in, but our class tends to do more exercises when our hands are on the grips like ITY’s, bicep curls, etc etc. I was sore for 3 days after the last class and really loved it.

Unfortunately, I walked in right at 930 and all the ropes were already taken! Guess it’s super popular on Friday mornings. I realized I was really hungry, since I hadn’t eaten a full breakfast, and I knew I was planning on going to the Killer X Workout that night at 630 so I decided to bag it and head home.

As soon as I walked in my apartment I started making breakfast. I was starving so I knew the best breakfast to fill me up, Sweet Breakfast Scramble.

ImageI whisked together 1 egg, 2 egg whites, 1 banana (I mush it by squeezing it while it’s in the peel and as it pops out I squeeze it into the bowl), 1/2 cup pumpkin puree and cinnamon. Mix it all together and put it on in a skillet on medium heat.

Just like when cooking eggs by themselves, you want to cook this mixture until the eggs are no longer runny.

ImageNow it’s just looks like orange scrambled eggs! This is a good point to take it off the stovetop.

ImageThe final step to cooking this amazing meal is to add a scoop, or two :), of your favorite peanut butter. I’m sure you guys can already guess which one I put in.

Image

ImageCinnamon Raisin Swirl. Duh!

This was the first time I was able to eat the whole breakfast in one sitting. Normally I only put in 1 egg and 1 egg white and I’m able to eat it all, but whenever I put 3 eggs it’s just too much for me. However, I think between my hard workout Thursday night and my lack of a real breakfast before 10AM I was one hungry woman.

Whenever I eat breakfast, Liam always likes to check out what’s goin’ on and sees if he can try and sneak a bite.

ImageHowever, he decided on his favorite past time instead. Knocking over cups of water.

Image

“Oh…sorry Mom.”

Luckily I had already drank all the water this time. After breakfast, I realized I was really tired so I snuggled into bed with some Harry Potter, read a chapter, and took a nap.

ImageImageI woke up around 1230 and decided I was going to run some errands. First I needed a little bit of a snack, so I munched on half a fig bar while I checked some emails.

ImageAnd packed some grapes for the road in my re-usable bags.ImageBefore I left I was browsing on Lululemon.com and saw they put the Spin It to Win It top on sale! I just tried it on last weekend and really liked it. A pit stop in at Lululemon would be necessary. Then, I grabbed everyone’s rent and utility checks from the bulletin board and headed out. I stopped the bank first and then drove into Bethesda. When I parked in the parking lot I saw a wonderful surprise waiting for me.

ImageSomeone had left over an hour in the meter!! I felt really lucky and fortunate because once i parked I realized I left my quarters in my other jacket. It’s a small random gesture, that probably wasn’t intentional, but it was still a really nice surprise.

I returned a shirt at City Sports, and bought the top I wanted from Lululemon, after trying it on in a couple different colors to be sure of course :). While I was walking around, I checked twitter for updates on Kevin’s matches in the wrestling tournament.

Image

Killin’ em.

Next I swung into Barnes & Noble for a little browsing, but the next book I read after Harry Potter I really want to be a good one. I’m going to wait and ask around to see what’s a good read.

I left Bethesda and headed for home. While I was out shopping, my brother emailed out his Christmas List to my parents and I. This was my signal to make my list, so that’s exactly what I did.

ImageWhile I caught up on Glee, Liam caught up on some sleep.

ImageImageAround 4 o’clock my stomach was growling. I planned to eat lunch this late today though since I knew I was getting pizza with my Mom at 8 after my workout class. With pizza on the brain, I wanted to have a healthy lunch with lots of vegetables.

ImageIn the bowl was spinach, avocado, chick peas, rasins, cucumber, tomato, yellow bell pepper, feta cheese and Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing. Delicious!

Around 530 I started to get ready for the Killer X Workout Class. I was so excited about my new top, so I chose it as my outfit for the class. Although the top is designed for a cycling class, I wanted to wear it anyway. Here’s what they say about it on their website:

“When we crank up the cadence in spin class, we want a tank that can handle our sweat and keep our girls under control. We designed this inherently wicking tank with a high neck and a grippy rear hem to keep us covered while we cycle.”

Image

Image

I had not tried this class yet, but had a feeling it would be challenging. Besides being excited to wear it, I also wanted to test out my new top from Lululemon and see how it would hold up in a high impact class with a lot of movement (what I was anticipating). Since there’s no room for a bra underneath it, you rely on the support they build into the top to hold everyone together.

ImageSo I did some test jumps.

Image

ImageAnd messed up the timing … a lot.

ImageGot a littttle frustrated.

ImageBut eventually got it! And I don’t have the crazy eyes like I do in that first photo. Anyway, as you can see, even when jumping, and landing, the support they built into the top holds everything secure and in place. It’s also suuuper comfortable. Not to mention eye-catching. Wearing this definitely made me feel great and look great at the same time, so I knew I made the right decision :).

Next I was off to class. Wow, they definitely weren’t joking around when they titled this workout Killer. Last night, she had us do a circuit workout. Since there were 13 of us there, we had 13 stations. No station was a rest station. As I looked around, I was confident I was going to be challenged.

Here’s the workout: (I linked almost every exercise so you guys can do the workout, or any part of it, on your own!)

1. Decline Crunches on the ab bench

2. Alternating Plyo Push-ups (we had 2 steps, one on each side, instead of the singular featured in this clip. When the left hand was on the mat, right hand on the right side bench, when the right hand was on the mat, left hand was on the left bench)

3. Arm Raises (we had a variety of weight choses, I chose 5 lbs)

4. Plank

5. 30 Box Jumps – **This person was the timekeeper. Whenever they completed their 30 jumps they yelled “SWITCH!” and that’s when you knew to switch stations.

6. Box Leg Press (closest I could find to it. Instead of doing the same leg over and over, we alternated one after the other. Lead with left leg, right foot comes up, right foot down first, then left. Then lead with right leg, etc..)

7. Barbell Dead Lift (45 lbs women 60lbs men)

8. Jack knife

9. Squat to Overhead Press (8 or 10 lb dumb bells for women, 15 for men)

10. Battle Rope

11. Jump Rope

12. Burpees

13. Kettle Bell Swings

We repeated this circuit 4 times!! We weren’t given any rest in-between circuit repeats so if you needed water or rest it was at your discretion. By the end, I was hungry for fuel and feeling like I got a really great workout in. Definitely will be doing this class more often.

I stretched and talked with a couple people I see regularly then walked over to Pete’s Pizza to meet up with my mom!

Image

We ordered the Down-the-Hill pizza. It had meatball, sausage, bell pepper, caramelized onion and olives. I also ordered a Spinach Olivada salad to start with.

Image

Spinach Olivada Salad

ImageI never order meat on my pizzas, but I realized I hadn’t had meat in about a week. I was pescetarian (no meat, but does eat fish, eggs and dairy) for almost 2 years and only switched back due to health concerns at the time. I’m still pretty used to not eating meat, but I do try and have it 2-3 times per week.

My mom and I decided we couldn’t leave without dessert. There were WAY too many delicious sounding options. Pumpkin canolis, mini pumpkin spice or red velvet cakes, peanut butter chocolate cup. But we ultimately decided on gelato. It was a tough choice between Pumpkin Gingersnap and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough for me, but I chose the dough (since I had pumpkin with breakfast) and my mom got the Double Chocolate.

Image

My mom and I enjoyed our dessert then took the bus back home. Her apartment is in the same area as mine, 4 minute walk away, so we could get off at the same stop.

I was really pooped after such a long day so I took a shower and got cozy in some wrestling sweats Kevin gave me. I wear them around the house or to sleep when I know he’s competing, kind of like a small good luck charm.

ImageImage

I finished the latest Glee episode and was off to bed!

Hope everyone’s having a good start to their Saturday so far!

Until next time,

Natasha

New Day, New Breakfast.

30 Nov

Good evening everyone!

Woof, what a long day today was. One of the best parts though was being able to sleep in a little later this morning, til 930, and have the time to make a fresh breakfast before work. I took this opportunity to try a recipe I’ve been meaning to try for awhile now: whipped banana oatmeal.

I found this recipe off the blog Kath Eat’s Real Food months ago, but haven’t gotten around to making it until today. I started off with 1/3 cup skim milk, 1/3 cup oats, and 1/2 cup water in a pan. I brought this to a medium boil then began to slice half of a banana very thinly and place the slices  into the mix.

Once it all began to boil, I whipped the mixture together quickly until the bananas became part of the consistency. The smell at this point of the process was heaven. I let it cook for about 4 minutes and then added in some pumpkin puree.

Lastly, I tossed some blueberries in there and hoped for the best. To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure if I would like it. I almost began a second batch, but realized I was running low on time so I popped it into a tupperware container and went off to work.

Well, to my surprise, this breakfast was delicious! And ultra filling. About halfway I was considering putting it in the fridge for later, but it was too good! Especially once I added in my Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter. Seriously, I cannot get enough of it right now.

I ran a participant, made some phone calls, followed up on emails, and before I knew it it was 130! Time to eat 🙂

In the bowl today was spinach, chickpeas, cucumber, tomato, avocado, raisins, yellow bell pepper and light balsamic vinaigrette. I use the Boathouse Farms dressing and I highly recommend it. Light in calories per serving, but packed with flavor. I actually didn’t even put dressing on my salads for the first 2 years I ate them, but this is my favorite dressing now.

After a couple more tasks at work, I got to head home and have some down time before I left for babysitting. Today went by pretty quickly, I always enjoy my time with Max. He’s 12 and horrible at Mario Kart on the Wii, but a really enjoyable kid to spend time with. Right from babysitting I left for the gym!

Today’s workout was all about getting myself moving. I took Tuesday and Wednesday as rest days so I felt a little restless. I hopped on the treadmill for a nice and easy 3 mile run at a 8:34 pace. After that, I hopped downstairs and completed this circuit Tina from Carrot’s n Cake posted on Health Magazine’s website for the morning after Thanksgiving. I actually did the workout that morning as well and found it to be a good challenge so I went for it again today.

My legs are definitely feeling it halfway through. It’s a tough workout, but a good one! I didn’t leave the gym until 755 so by the time I got in my car I realized how hungry I was. I normally like to be done with dinner by 8 so my stomach was empty and my body ready for some fuel. When I got home, I wanted to just throw together something quickly in the form of veggies and protein so I just grabbed whatever was ready to cook.

The veggies of the evening were broccoli, yellow squash, garlic and brussel sprouts. I tossed in some black pepper, basil and thyme. The combination was so random, but I ended up really enjoying it. I’m going to repeat this one for sure.

To pair alongside my veggies I chose a throwback.

Trader Joe’s Chicken Nuggets 🙂

With only 190 calories and 15 g of protein these little nuggets were the perfect choice for tonight. By the end of the meal my stomach was happily satisfied 🙂

The rest of my evening consisted of showering and getting the blog ready to launch! I’m pretty wiped so I’m going to snuggle up with Liam and read a little bit of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, or any of the series for that matter. I’ve decided I’m going to read through all 7 again and see how fast I can do it. A bit of a mini, but enjoyable challenge for me. I haven’t read for pleasure in awhile.

What are some good books you have read lately?

Well that’s it for me tonight, goodnight everyone!

Until next time,

Natasha
